Capita IT Resourcing is currently recruiting for a SQL Server DBA to join one of our client's (a FTSE250 organisation) flagship accounts. This role is based in Coventry and will report to the Support Team Leader. It will form part of a team of DBAs responsible for supporting, maintaining and improving over 150 instances across several large environments (mostly MS SQL Server 2012).

Candidates should possess strong database administration skills and will also be responsible for organising SQL changes with some development and improvement work. You should also be comfortable working in a challenging Applications Management environment and as part of a wider team.

Key responsibilities and skills:

  • Ensure SQL instances align with business policy, optimal performance and best practices.
  • Analyse permissions and modify access based on principle of "least privileges required".
  • Ensure all SQL instances have robust backup, recovery and DR strategies.
  • Work within the framework of change control and coordinate with relevant parties.
  • Analyse systems and data to investigate and resolve reported system and data issues.
  • Work closely and efficiently with team members, other colleagues and third parties to ensure project requirements are fully achieved.
  • Participate in the on call rota as required
  • Perform out of hours changes as required by the business

Technical skills and experience (optional):

  • Experience working with AAG SQL clusters (Always Available Groups).
  • Familiarity with TFS (Team Foundation Services).
  • Familiarity with Visual Studio SSDT tools.
  • TSQL development experience, particularly focusing on efficiently.

Other skills/experience:

  • Knowledge of working within an ITIL environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Work without supervision and under pressure.
  • Strong organisation skills and able to prioritize and coordinate effectively.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time well.
  • Good written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Flexible and open to change.
  • Able to work with all levels of staff.
  • Quality conscious.
  • Willing to take ownership.
  • Willing to share information.
