Capita IT Resourcing is currently partnered with a FTSE 250 company in their search for a Solutions and Configuration Manager to join them on a full-time, permanent basis. If you are looking for a job where you can be proud of the work that you do and make a difference, this could be the role for you. The company produces a product which has circa 14,000 users in turn looking after circa 2.5 million citizens of the UK. This role really allows you to work at scale. On a personal note this role would highly suit a candidate who is hands-on with technology at the moment but, in the medium-long term, is looking to take a step up to a CTO-level position. This role will give you the opportunity not only to maintain and improve your hands-on technical abilities working with a variety of existing and new customers, it will also allow you to take a more strategic view of products and get involved at a much higher level.

What my client is looking is a combination of skill sets. You will be involved with the full cradle to grave lifecycle of technical enhancements, decisions around "end of life" of products, you will be involved in the bid process and will also manage and deploy products into customers' environments. In order to be successful in the role you will need experience of working in a Solution Architect-type role where you will possess experience of working closely with customers and pre-sales to define solutions as well as having an eye on the longer term product development. At the same time you will need experience of deploying those products and solutions, often complex in nature, into customer environments and ensuring a smooth delivery. You will have some line management responsibility (1 or 2 direct reports) but no prior management experience is necessary. The role is based in Bury Saint Edmunds with some travel to client sites expected.

Technical experience


  • Good class degree in Computing/Information Technology (e.g. BSc, minimum 2:2), or equivalent experience;
  • Good working knowledge of configuring, customising and implementing Microsoft solutions;
  • In-depth understanding of the software development lifecycle;
  • Knowledge of configuration management and change control documents and procedures.


  • Knowledge of server builds, backups, restores, upgrades and patches;
  • Experience of implementing process improvements and CMMI;
  • Microsoft accreditation;
  • PRINCE2 qualified;
  • ITIL Version 3 - Foundation.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft CRM, SharePoint, .NET, MS SQL Server and MS SQL Report Services;
  • Microsoft Windows, Exchange Server and Network infrastructure knowledge desirable;
  • Good working knowledge of Linux/Unix systems, Oracle 10g RAC Database and Oracle 9i Application Server, IBM Rational ClearCase / ClearQuest, HP Quality Center or equivalent SCM systems;
  • Knowledge of SQLPlus, TCP/IP, DNS, RedHat Enterprise Linux;
  • Good knowledge of business processes.
  • TOGAF 9.1 or other similar EA Framework Certification
