Role overview:

Capita is undergoing an ambitious transformation, as we look to develop the capabilities and skills we will need for the next decade and beyond. As part of this we are investing heavily in automation, starting with RPA (Robotic Process Automation), and have embarked on an ambitious journey to drive automation within our Operations. We have taken our RPA team from 10 to over 120 since January alone and we are invested heavily in these cutting-edge technologies.

Our Azure cloud offering has been built from the ground up to provide our clients with Automation as a Service focusing primarily on RPA, Web forms and cognitive services such as OCR. We have utilised the DevOps methodology, putting an important focus on automating processes, leveraging infrastructure as code to build, release and deploy client's environments and solutions through to our pre-emptive alerting and monitoring Service Management Portal.

We are looking for an experienced Software Development Manager with RPA experience who will encourage and inspire employees to innovate in everything they do. You'll be passionate about new and emerging technologies and be Capable of delivering automation at scale using both on and offshore resources to deliver on time and to budget. This role reports to the Head of Development and is part of the Operational Excellence Automation development team.

The Software Development Manager is an important role within Capita Automation, responsible for technically leading a tribe of 4 or 5 automation development squads located both onshore and offshore. Development solutions will include but not be limited to Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Chat Bots, Web Forms leveraging Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Cognitive Computing.

This role will involve working alongside other tribe members, including Portfolio Manager, Solution Architect and Customer Success Manager. Ensuring projects are ready to be consumed by a development squad.

Your background:

  • Experience of leading Agile development projects and knowledge of various Agile techniques as well as the Scrum framework. Helping to drive team performance, collaboration between different automation departments and provide Agile mentoring/coaching of development team members.
  • Previous experience line managing development teams with experience working with RPA tool set such as UiPath (Desirable), Blue Prism, Nice or AA is essential for this role.
  • Experience of managing or developing solutions on cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
  • A passion for maturing and developing teams - people management of tribe members is a fundamental part of this role and you'll be hands on in identifying needs for training, providing career development plans and succession planning.
  • Experience of managing or developing solutions using CD/CI pipeline.
  • Working with a development project management tool such as DevOps (Desirable) or Jira to plan, develop, build and release solutions. Demonstratable experience of gathering analytics and building team/tribe dashboards using one of these tools is required
  • Significant background and proven experience in software design and development using technologies such as C#, .NET, Web Services, Windows Workflow and other related technologies
