Senior Security Operations Analyst

Senior Security Operations Analyst required by our leading client in Runcorn Cheshire. This exciting role will be focussed on providing security support to the operations team / Service provider who support the systems managed by the client.


The Senior Security Operations Analyst will be required to maintain and utilise a variety of threat intelligence sources to assist in both the protective monitoring strategies of our providers and the handling of security incidents within the solution.
The day to day tasks of this role may include:

  • Maintaining and monitoring security information sources to help identify vulnerabilities and new threats
  • Managing, coordinating and communicating security incident activities
  • Conducting problem analysis to identify root causes and remedial actions
  • Identifying potential changes in security risk through change analysis
  • Providing security operations reporting to help identify trends
  • Providing appropriate approval for security related system configuration aspects
  • Consulting on related projects within the wider team

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure appropriate handling and management of security incidents, problems and changes
  • Identifying changes in the threat landscape with respect to the Smart Metering System
  • Providing appropriate reporting and management information
  • Providing technical security assurance and expertise

Technical Skills
  • Operational Security Management;

  • Web security;
  • Digital forensics investigation.
Soft Skills
  • Communication skills - being able to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with their own team and their team leader or manager;
  • Analytical skills - being able to quickly analyse a situation and make appropriate decisions;
  • Personal networking skills - being able to quickly gain the confidence of other people and sustain those trust relationships;
  • Security risk awareness - being aware of security risks and threats and being able to explain those threats to non-IT people in simple terms;

Qualifications/Experience

  • An understanding of IT Security, both in terms of security architecture and also Information Assurance.
  • An active interest in software systems/engineering and/or secure communications and Information systems and/or system security architecture and/or malware.
  • An understanding of Security and Application logs.
  • Experience in network and systems Protective Monitoring
  • Qualifications within the IT Security field desirable but not essential. Certified Intrusion Analyst (GIAC), Certified Incident Handler (GCIH), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Desirable knowledge of large public sector programmes

Other Requirements

  • Capable of achieving HMG Security Cleared (SC) security

This role will involve a little travel to london during the first few months
