Senior Network Engineer - Hemel Hempstead - £55k + Benefits

Our client is a major Telecommunications and Networking provider require a Senior Network Engineer to join their team in Hemel Hempstead. They provide public WiFi service to 100 millions WiFi users across 120,000 UK hotel rooms, 32 airports, London street and many other public sites.

Role Purpose for the Senior Network Engineer:

You'll be enthusiastic about modern methods for deployment management and platform delivery, with a pragmatic style and great analytical skills that help you identify and solve problems before our customers do. You will have a keen sense of architecture, security, resilience and performance that allows you to spot solutions that work and those that don't. You'll be continually learning and have an eye on the tech coming over the horizon.

Key Accountabilities for the Senior Network Engineer:

  • Project Delivery - Engage within the initial stages of programmes, projects and initiatives. This will feed into the test plan with up to date requirements thus identifying synergies that drive quality across networks and platform upto NOC (Network Operations)
  • Tools and Technology - Jira and Confluence for regular defect tracking and other in-build automation tools for regression test execution purpose. Meraki, Mikrotik and cisco technologies will be used as part of environment build.
  • Support -Collaborate with support team manager on acceptance of projects into live environments. Ensures test and deployment compliance with relevant standards e.g. ITIL, ISTQB and internal/external auditing authorities. Able to take timely action to co-ordinate resolution activity for key risk areas
  • Communication - Ensure strong communication processes (written and verbal, IT and customer) are established, concentrating particularly on test and deployment activities. Acting as a test representative for Service validation and deployment area across all levels of the business.
  • Culture - Engender a culture of continuous improvement, energy, collaboration and fun across department.
  • Career Development - Provide input to people managers to assist with the promotion of career
  • Provide support in a deputy capacity where necessary for the Test Manager to ensure continuity of a quality assurance is achieved across test and deployment activities at project level.
  • Provide reports on testing results, coverage and make recommendations where necessary.

Essential Knowledge, experience and skills for Senior Network Engineer role:

  • Define and follow standards and best practices for network design, testing, and implementation methodology. Document different types of network environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other related field or equivalent knowledge with 6-10 years of related professional experience.
  • 5+ years of direct engineering and design experience in the telecommunications and/or networking industry and/or B2B Internet Space. Cisco CCNP/CCDP or CCIE certifications preferred.
  • Understanding of transport protocols, routing protocols, and security/authentication protocols at all layers of the OSI model with emphasis on TCP/IP are essential.
  • Subject Matter Expert in IP protocols including BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, IP Multicast, MPLS Proficiency working with VLAN, VRF, HSRP, Port Security, Traffic Shaping, Priority Queuing, Class of Service (CoS)
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise wireless architectures (design, implementation & troubleshooting)
  • In depth experience with multiple vendor¹s hardware, including Cisco, Mikrotik, Juniper, Aerohive etc.
  • Must have knowledge of networking features and protocols such as spanning tree, ARP, CDP, EIGRP, RIP, OSPF, BGP, VTP, Etherchannel, 802.1Q trunking, MLS, HSRP, QoS, multicast, 802.11, IPsec, Frame Relay, RADIUS/TACACS+, SNMP, T-1/E-1, BRI/PRI, MPLS, dial-up services, and caching services.
  • Experience with network management tools such as Sniffers, Wireshark, Solarwinds etc.
  • Experience supporting Windows and UNIX products systems/applications on networking technologies. * Ability to learn new things quickly, and need minimal direction.
  • A high degree of creative ability, analytical and technical skills and independent judgment/decision making.
  • Good strategic planning, project management, organizational and time management skills to handle multiple complex enterprise-scale complex projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communications and presentation skills and candidate must have the ability to communicate with internal/external customers, vendors, management etc. in both formal and informal situations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills needed to team well with peers, customers, project managers, and vendor
