Senior Java Engineer

Currently working with a leading financial institution on the lookout for a Senior Java Developer to work in the heart of London within key departments and liaise with business users and clients to design and produce software to meet the goals and expectations of the end client.

Key responsibilities:
· Designing and producing software to meet the goals of the business expressed through requirements
· Maintaining high standards for quality and security of software
· Keeping our build automation pipeline fit for purpose
· Adopting new technologies and techniques to improve the Orbit platform.
· Refining the development process in product teams to improve the work of the team.
· Ensuring product teams understand and adhere to the agreed architecture.
· Estimating effort to complete technical work

Technical Competencies:
· Essential:
· Java version 7 onwards -
· Spring version 3 onwards -
· iBATIS, Hibernate or other ORM framework
· Front end technologies including HTML / CSS / JavaScript
Key tasks:
Develops new system functionality including:
· Working with key business users and clients in the definition and specification of requirements
· Producing system design and specifications and relevant documentation
· Developing against agreed design patterns
· Producing relevant technical documentation
· Implementing relevant automated tests
· Performing application profiling and performance tasks when relevant
· Adhering to peer review code
· Maintaining high coding standards and not violate the agreed software architecture rules
· Communicating ideas and contributing to technical discussions
· Understands and enhances the technologies used in System Architecture
· Applies knowledge and experience in solution design to ensure technology is driven into the future
· Works alongside other members of the development team including Developers, Test Developers, Business Analysts and User
· Pair Programming wherever possible, including with developers from other practices, to ensure high code quality
· Collaborates with other practice group members to define goals and solutions for achieving them
· Leads initiatives in areas of improvement and gains collaboration of other developers to effect change
· Identifies and escalates key issues (both technical or business) to the Practice Group Lead
· Agrees personal objectives and goals with Line Manager / Appraiser and makes every effort to satisfy these objectives within the specified time frames
· Provides feedback on the performance of colleagues
· Develops an understanding of client needs, treating them fairly at all times
· Commits to equal treatment of all staff / colleagues and treats everyone fairly
· Maintains excellent relationship with third party companies and contractors
