Senior IT Support Officer

Glasgow City Centre

Up to £38,000pa

My client is internationally recognised as one of Europe's leading Public Sector Organisations, and they are looking for a Senior IT Support Officer to join their team, providing support to 5500 users. It is a genuinely exciting opportunity to join a friendly, supportive team.

Role Purpose

To deliver high quality and responsive ICT support service to end users. You will demonstrate a breadth of ICT support knowledge within a mixed Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh environment. You will ensure that there is access to effective and reliable systems and will exhibit the skills necessary to provide a high-quality service with a strong customer care focus - one which actively promotes existing and new developments to staff and students.

The post is focused on the direction and supervision of day to day IT support team activities to ensure a responsive and high level of end-user support is delivered in accordance with IT best practice.

Accountabilities

  • Have supervisory responsibility for IT contractors, IT consultants and junior IT support staff;
  • Provide advanced (3rd level) IT support and advice to the IT support team;
  • Be responsible for the development and management of the IT hardware and software asset registers;
  • Be an interface between the IT support team and the IT networking team ensuring standards and handover procedures are robust and adhered to;
  • Take a lead role in the evaluation and delivery of IT support projects;
  • Perform hardware and software fault investigation and resolution on IT equipment within the company as requested;
  • Assist with the implementation of IT projects on a company-wide basis;
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to the IT support team as well as IT users in any aspect of IT services;
  • Undertake technical maintenance for aspects of IT services e.g., filestore maintenance, application software maintenance, e-mail, internet services, security and backup & recovery;
  • Ensure that appropriate IT support documentation is developed and updated including the development of end user self-service guides;
  • Undertake evaluation and recommendation of new IT hardware and software products;

Requirements

  • Proven experience of managing and/or leading a team.
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of ICT support. Able to demonstrate hands-on technical expertise in appropriate ICT technologies, in particular: Microsoft Windows OS, Apple Macintosh OS, Windows 2012 server, Active Directory, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft SCCM 2012, VoIP, Anti-virus software, remote support tools, software deployment technologies

Person Specification

  • Be able to direct and supervise IT support staff;
  • Be self-motivated and able to work under own direction and initiative;
  • Have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills;
  • Be able to develop good relationships with a wide range of people;
  • Be able to remain calm under pressure;
  • Show a willingness to exercise initiative, use judgement and make decisions;
  • Be a team-player with a flexible "can-do" attitude.
