Project Manager Job Summary:
I am currently working closely with the Head of Change within Capita Personal Independent Payment based at our prestigious offices at Fort Dunlop, Birmingham and he is in the market for an experienced Project Manager to join his team!
The Project Manager will be responsible for the end to end delivery and management of projects to meet the overall requirements of the client and the business in the most cost effective and reliable manner. The Project Manager will take ownership for the delivery of allocated Business Change and I.T projects. The nature of the business will require the Project Manager to be capable of working on several projects of varying size concurrently. Additionally, the Project Manager will be required to work with other teams to plan, track and report on software releases planned for the Personal Independence Payment Scheme.

Project Manager Key Responsibilities:

  • Ownership and delivery of allocated Business Change and IT projects for the PIP business; delivering projects with robust governance and control
  • Operating within an agreed PRINCE2 based methodology to ensure successful delivery to both internal and external customers; working with the PMO to move projects forward through stage gates
  • Ability to define project objectives, scope, timelines, responsibilities and communication methods. Representation as Design Authority and Change Authority Boards as required
  • Reporting on all aspects of project performance; managing RAG status' and ensuring all projects are delivered on time, to cost and to defined quality
  • Developing, updating and managing project plans using Microsoft Project. Ensuring appropriate allocation of resources, setting of timescales and agreeing levels of client engagement
  • Commercial acumen to create and define relevant projects' Business Cases, managing and tracking benefits through to realisation
  • Ensuring effective liaison and engagement on all project matters across functional team leaders and business managers. Managing stakeholders and senior management expectations
  • Ensuring effective liaison with the client and provision to the client with all appropriate project material. Ensuring effective liaison with 3rd party suppliers on all project matters
  • Maintain all appropriate logs, completion of all mandated Project Products, ensuring effective pro-active management of risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies

Project Manager Experience/Qualifications/Competencies:




Education & Qualifications

PRINCE2 Practitioner

Qualification in AMP and or PMP

Job Experience

5 years successfully delivering projects from inception to completion using a waterfall approach
Must have experience of at least project managing 2 technical projects
Must have experience with delivering presentations to peers, stakeholders and senior management teams

Delivering projects within Government Services sector

Technical Skills

Microsoft Project - project plan development/review, scope development/planning
Excellent Microsoft PowerPoint skills
Integration of different information management systems, and the use of reporting tools
Competent user of IT tools (word, excel, MS Project, MS Visio etc)

Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server

Special Aptitudes

Strong customer facing skills. Must be comfortable and confident with clients at all levels
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be confident with communicating at all levels including SMT and Exec members

Balance timeliness, cost effectiveness and quality in proposing solutions; to improve quality, customer service, efficiency, revenue and productivity and to provide information

Strong problem solving and analytical abilities

The ability to cooperate with and support others; able to lead and motivate teams working on projects


Enthusiastic, self-starter, flexible and committed. Positive with great energy
Uses initiative, takes ownership of projects and problems

Must be prepared to travel to client sites sometimes at short notice

Self development and self motivation - working continuously and proactively to develop skills and knowledge

Strong organisational, time management and leadership skills
