Project Manager

Capita IT Resourcing is currently recruiting for a Project Manager to join our client based in Southampton. The successful candidate will join an existing team and will:

  • Take full responsibility for all aspects of the IT delivery of assigned projects within the time, cost and quality tolerances approved in the Statement of Work including: infrastructure, applications, test management, service transition and cut-over, access control, support, maintenance, service management, annual charges, asset management and change management;
  • Produce and maintain project documentation including but not exhaustive: (a) Statement of Work or and a Project Initiation Document (covering Plans and Risk and Issue Logs); (b) weekly Highlight Reporting in the pproved project management toolset ; (c) Work Packages including local templates for Firewall Change, Virtual Infrastructure Configuration and Application Packaging; (d) Exception Reporting and Change Control; (d) End Project Reports including Lessons Learned;
  • Manage project set-up within the approved project management toolset wherever specified in the local project management procedures. Set-up a project cost tracker for all projects and initiate cost centre work breakdown structure coding in SAP for project payments and income;
  • Assign and manage project resources based on a matrix management system in conjunction with operational IT team leaders/managers;
  • Ensure that all client stakeholders are regularly updated with project progress and reporting;
  • Manage assigned changes using; local operating principles, the local technical Request For Change 'RFC' process and the approved project management toolset;
  • Manage Change Control Notices (CCN's) for additional services and charges not included within the current contract and associated schedules;
  • Perform risk management including assessment, registering / recording, mitigation, actions, escalation and regular reviews in line with local procedures;
  • Manage all project dependencies including customer responsibilities;
  • Manage all project financial forecasting for actual spend and resource used against project budget for review in line with local procedures;
  • Define the acceptance criteria to be met and test approach to be followed in order to obtain business acceptance of the project. Achieve business acceptance for all projects in line with time, cost and quality tolerances;
  • Ensure that the Project Governance Framework and methodology is adhered to for all managed projects;
  • Undertake PMO responsibilities including the following:
    • Ensure internal best practice and process is being followed on all projects by Project & Programme Managers.
    • Hold weekly/fortnightly project review meetings with the Project Managers and update risks and issues.
    • Be the link between the client, engagement office and internal support services, reviewing requests and tracking progress.
    • Ensure resource constraints are managed effectively.
    • Be responsible for updating and maintaining internal project systems including Pre-Paid Day management to ensure their accuracy and take any anomalies to the project manager for action.
    • Ensure highlight reports are sent to the client at the correct cadence (written by the PM).
    • Take an active role in identifying and advancing project improvement process.

  • Ability to maintain control of a wide range of tasks;

  • Good general understanding IT infrastructure and software solutions;
  • Qualified to PRINCE2 Foundation and PRINCE2 Practitioner levels;
  • Computer literate with advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Project;

Desired experience and skills for the role:

  • Degree level qualification;
  • ITIL Foundation certification;
  • Applicable IT Professional qualifications;
