We are Recruiting for a number of Project Managers (Construction and Estates) for a Public Sector Client in Salford on a 2 year fixed term contract, paying between £39,000 - £47,722 per annum.

Role Purpose

Directly responsible to the Associate Director of Estates from whom general guidance only will be given, and therefore acting with minimum supervision, the role is for the provision of professional construction project management services:-

  • To ensure consistency across projects, and ensure an integrated approach to design.
  • To foster good working relationships with all University stakeholders.
  • To plan and manage projects in a co-ordinated way to ensure Operational and Divisional objectives are met and to ensure that operational needs are fully considered and accounted for.
  • To manage, maintain and develop services under the supervision of the Associate Director of Estates through the use of in-house direct labour and externally appointed consultants and contractors operating with minimal supervision exercising initiative and professional judgement.
  • To ensure a safe working environment for all staff, students and visitors ensuring that all legislative requirements are met working in close conjunction with University's Health Safety and Wellbeing department.


  • Responsibility for the management and delivery of building maintenance, refurbishment and capital new build projects as required to agreed standards, programmes and budgets.
  • Act as Project Lead and Client Representative and establish and maintain excellent management relations with all Stakeholders.
  • Co-ordination and preparation of Stakeholders requirements to establish a clear project brief, acting as a lead for multi-disciplinary projects.
  • To review the pre contract design stages ensuring that all projects are fully briefed and are in line with the University's strategic goals as and when requested by the Associate Director of Estates.
  • Ensure that all projects carry accurate, agreed and timely project information relating to programme, sequence, quality and finance and prepare reports for use at Divisional meetings and by funding bodies and other Stakeholders.
  • Management of multi-disciplinary project teams from project inception through to completion.
  • To appoint and manage the performance of external contractors and consultants as appropriate.
  • To implement tender procedures both above and below EU tendering thresholds in consultation with the Head of Procurement.
  • Taking due account of the requirements of the CDM Regulations and in doing so, discharge the duty of Clients Representative.
  • To prepare project reports and forecasting as required and present to University senior management.
  • To ensure that all statutory requirements and procedures in respect of legislation, planning, building, fire and health and safety are untaken effectively where appropriate to the role.
  • To manage and be accountable for delegated budgets working in close liaison with the Associate Director of Estates.
  • To work in accordance with all University and Estates & Facilities Policies and Procedures.
  • To demonstrate a commitment to high level customer service at all times.

The candidate must have:

Extensive Project Management experience

Experience within the Public Sector

Desirable :

RICS Accreditation ( or working towards)
