Permanent IT Project Manager
Capita are hiring for a permanent IT Project Manager to work in our office based in the South West.

The successful project manager will need to come from an engineering/retail background, be familiar with Agile/Scum methodologies and have some experience with either JIRA or Confluence.


  • Manage changes in project scope, identify potential risks and issues; and devise contingency plans with support/input from the relevant technical authority
  • Coordinate the teams to gain consensus on deliverables and assist and guide the team in understanding technical solutions and available options
  • Prioritise and manage several project elements
  • Constantly monitor and report on progress of the project to all stakeholders
  • Present reports defining project progress, problems and solutions
  • Implement and manage project scope changes and interventions to achieve project outputs
  • Project evaluations and assessment of results on a regular basis
  • Ensure the project remains within the boundaries of time, specification and cost, maintain and manage the Risk, Action & Issue List (RAIL) tracker
  • Ensure the process for issues management and escalation are adhered to.


  • First Degree (Engineering preferable) or equivalent
  • Formal Project Management training/ qualifications are desirable but not essential
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

  • Credible; ability to demonstrate a good level of understanding of engineering processes to work with design teams throughout the project development cycle

Key Skills required

  • Commercially aware
  • Good knowledge of programme and project management methods including either DSDM / Agile PM and / or PRINCE2.
  • Good working knowledge of Confluence / Jira.
  • Robust risk management.

Key experience required

  • At least 3 years' experience of IT project management, ideally gained in consultancy or client side in large and complex organisations.
  • A proven record in delivery.
  • Good knowledge and experience of all stages of the project and programme lifecycle, including development of business cases, mobilisation of programmes.
  • Knowledge of multiple project management methodologies.
  • Experience of delivering medium sized projects with budgets in excess of £200k.
  • Experience of successfully leading large multi-disciplinary project teams potentially across multiple organisations and locations.
  • An agent of change.
  • Business change management / communication planning.
  • Ability to lead an engagement with a client.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Good business sense, with business and/or functional knowledge.
  • Able to think holistically and analytically and know when to take which approach.
  • Capable of visualising a problem context/situation, develop many resolution options and think them through from concept to implementation.
  • Have a clearly methodical approach.


  • Experience of working for a consultancy or other professional services organisation.
  • Experience working with 3rd party and/or offshore teams
  • Budget management and financial reporting.
  • Business case development and benefit realisation.
  • Experience of value tender / vendor selections.
