About the company

My client is an innovative company in the heart of Manchester. They develop technologies to deliver low cost, high speed diagnostics in clinical markets. They are in the process of building their first MALDI mass spectrometer and all the complex UI and backend software that goes with it.

You will be working with small cross-functional team of less than 30 people, with expertise ranging from microbiology, mechanical and electronic engineering, software engineering, chemistry & physics. The team are specialists in their field but have wide-ranging interests. This means that there is always the opportunity to upskill and spread your wings (which is always actively encouraged)

The ideal person..

Will be an experienced Node.js Software Engineer who can join my clients ever-growing team and help to deliver their new high-specification instrument. The ideal candidate will be happy to become be a key figure in the team and in the development of the systems. It is essential that they feel comfortable in taking responsibility for their work and can contribute to a well-conceived system architecture.

The ideal candidate will be required to:

  • Apply software design techniques in the analysis of product requirements.
  • Take end-to-end responsibility for the development of new features or system components.
  • Modify and test the source code to iteratively improve software.
  • Provide final-level support for software systems.
  • Apply best practice across development tasks within a peer reviewed environment.

What we are looking for

  • Experience with Node.js.
  • Experience with vanilla JavaScript, ES6 and transpilation using Babel.
  • Experience developing against relational databases (ideally PostgreSQL).
  • Experience using Express and Socket.IO (desirable)
  • Experience using Sequelize (desirable)
  • Experience of developing software on Windows (desirable)
  • Some experience with React (desirable)
