Network Technical Design Architect - Barnet - Up to £85k

  • Discovery and Design to support new office IT fit-out
  • Due diligence activity within an Impact Assessment exercise, which may drive new business from the legacy site exits (e.g. decommissioning / migration activity)
  • Designing fit-for-purpose Network Solutions to support our client's business objectives
  • Produce and review Network Designs, both High and Low Level, Test Plans and Migrations Designs/ Strategies
  • Collaborating with project managers, business analysts, solution architects, network architects, business stakeholders and customer representatives to understand and translate business requirements into appropriate technical solutions
  • Working enterprise and solution architects to define infrastructure to deliver and support local government business applications
  • Good understanding of IT infrastructure, building fit-outs, office moves and print services
  • Technical understanding of Data Centre architecture, LAN /WAN, and Desktop
  • Experience of a major office fit-out project including definition of work settings and target operating models
  • Responsible for supporting the transformation of Barnet's core operating model, including the relocation of core office staff to new site currently under construction.
  • Target operating model calls for smarter ways of working and greater flexibility in user locations, devices, and systems.
  • Report on variations to signed off designs, and ensuring business sign-off business is provided
  • Capable influencer and project team member, adaptable to fast moving project environments
  • Working to and within a Change Control environment ensuring proposed solutions are designed from a holistic perspective

Person Specification

  • Local government implementation experience
  • Flexible and intelligent approach, used to working within the constraints of fixed price engagements and well versed in Change Control methodology
  • Must be able to demonstrably work well as part of a project team
  • Good communications skills, especially written for documentation purposes
  • Ability to work to agreed deadlines, cost, scope & quality, management of risk, stakeholder management i.e. project management principles & practices
  • Ability to personally manage a diverse workload and able to deal with a variety of user queries, and develop work packages that describe scope & approach of activities undertaken
  • Ability to deal with differing levels of IT awareness, from within own team and user base
  • Capable of working under pressure on some occasions, and flexibility in deviations from plan.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrable large-scale Network Architecture experience, with good consulting skills and an understanding of how technologies impact on/ impacted by other IT infrastructure technologies
  • Have significant real-world Network Design experience; 3-5 years' experience in an IT infrastructure and networking environment
  • Demonstrable experience in CCNP (ideally CCIE), ASA firewall, Checkpoint firewall, Cisco Wireless
  • Able to translate customer business and technology requirements of varying detail, and produce high quality network solutions at high and low levels of detail
  • Able to delivery designs (HLD and LLD) to defined standards
  • Change Advisory Board (CAB) experience, well versed with CMDB principles and audit controls
  • Able to articulate and present ideas in a clear and concise manner, with ability to flex between summary/ full detail and non-technical/ technical language, depending on the target audience
  • Demonstrable experience of having provided guidance, support and technical assurance to Network Engineers during a significant restructure of an IT environment
  • Able to identify threats to network stability and propose innovative solutions, either within existing budgetary constraints or with a strong business justification for implementing the change
  • Provide input to technical designs provided by other design authorities or inputs
  • Provide direct, credible and authoritative interaction with colleagues and customer alike
  • Experience of a major office relocation project and network/systems analysis methodology
  • Supporting the development of requirements specification, analysis and design
  • Use of service desk tools for incident, problem management & change control
  • Subject matter expert in all things Networking including:
    • Routing
    • Switching
    • Security
    • WiFi
    • Application Delivery and Load Balancing
    • Emerging technologies
    • Cloud
    • Network monitoring and analysis
    • DDI
