The Microsoft Azure Cloud - Subject Matter Expert (SME) provides expertise to Workspace Agility in the configuration, management and support of Microsoft Azure services aligned to the service and contribute to the continuous delivery and improvement of Workspace Agility.

This role is a senior technical position that will sit along-side a team of SME's who will provide expertise and support for a wide range of cloud-based technologies and services for our enterprise customers along with the integration into their existing environments.


  • Technical expertise across the key technologies provided within Microsoft Azure and associated with Workspace Agility. Work with Technical Architects to lead the hands-on implementation of services, in line with agreed design parameters, including the services within Microsoft Enterprise Mobility + Security.

  • Working with the Customer, Project and Workspace Agility Product teams to ensure that services are transitioned and accepted operationally and manage these throughout the lifecycle of the service.

  • Acting as the Subject Matter Expert escalation point for Workspace Agility teams and playing a leading role in contributing towards a continuous deployment and servicing approach. Providing feedback and advice to service improvement activities such as Product Roadmap.

  • Seeking opportunities for automation and implementing them across the Microsoft Azure platform to drive business value and service quality and efficiency by leveraging technologies as applicable, such as Azure Resource Manager templates, JSON, PowerShell and automation tools.

  • Monitoring and maintaining the Workspace Agility Platform (Azure Tenants) aligned to best practice and providing Impact Assessments regarding updates from Microsoft.

  • Working aligned to Agile and DevOps methodologies utilising Microsoft Azure DevOps and Git Repositories, including Test Driven Development and Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment pipelines.

  • Building relationships with 3rd party technical teams and internal contacts.

  • Writing technical documentation (code and markdown) as required.

  • Mentoring of other Workspace Agility support staff for the SME's specialist areas.

  • Maintaining a personal commitment to proactively learn and maintain certification across relevant technology areas.

Skills & Competencies

  • The Microsoft Azure Cloud - Subject Matter Expert (SME) will need to demonstrate exceptional levels of hands-on experience with certification where possible, across the following key technologies and competencies:

  • Microsoft Azure IaaS and key Microsoft SaaS offerings, with good experience in the use of Azure Resource Manager templates, JSON and PowerShell automation.

  • Experience with Azure tools and services including design, configuration & management for Microsoft AAD, Intune, Rights Management, ATP, Desktop Analytics, Information Protection and Desktop Analytics.

  • Azure AD Cloud based identity providers.

  • Enterprise Mobility + Security (EM+S), and Azure Security.

  • Cloud Productivity - Microsoft Office & Collaboration tools.

  • Mobility and Unified Endpoint Management suites, ideally Enterprise Mobility Suite, Office365, and Microsoft Intune.

  • Physical device, cloud-based desktop and application virtualisation. E.g. Windows Virtual Desktop.

  • Deploying and servicing Windows 10 in an Enterprise context, including OOBE, Windows Autopilot. Integration with identity platforms including MDM, UEM platforms and WaaS.

  • Awareness of traditional toolsets where Azure services integrate into existing toolsets and infrastructure services.
