Monitoring/Tools Engineer - £40k + Benefits

The role will be part of the Infrastructure Tools team who have responsibilities for deploying and managing various tools across all of our managed services and hosted contracts.
The primary tools that are used:-

  • Microsoft SCOM (performance and availability monitoring)
  • Microsoft SCCM (asset management, patching, software deployment)
  • Nagios (performance and availability monitoring)
  • Solarwinds NPM (network monitoring and management)
  • Solarwinds SAM (performance and availability monitoring)
  • Nimsoft
  • BladeLogic
  • vCentre
  • HP Systems Insight Manager (hardware monitoring and management for HP kit)
  • ServiceNow (service management tool)



The Tools engineer role covers the entire life cycle of the customer contract so they will be involved at bid/design stage to advise which tools are required and how they should be used through to installation and configuration and then ongoing support, tuning and management.

The Tools engineers work closely with the Event Management team to ensure that all customer components and service are being monitored and to tune the monitoring to the most effective levels.

Responsibilities

  • Design, installation, configuration, management and support of Infrastructure toolsets
  • Participation in Incident management, Change management, Problem management and other ITIL disciplines
  • Assisting Availability & Capacity teams in the delivery of availability, capacity and performance reporting
  • .
  • Engage in support of the Service Management and Infrastructure toolsets
  • Completing updates as per change requests.
  • Setting up new contracts as part of the service take-on process.
  • Provide technical support to both internal and external customers.
  • Assist the team with SQL queries on the systems and other data sources that are supported within the team.
  • Provide support for team infrastructure (from O/S upwards)
  • Attend and support Continual Service Improvement activities.
  • Participate in the operational acceptance in service process
  • Produce reports as/when required
