Lead IT Project Manager

1 Year Fixed Term Contract

Background

This role sits within the private-sector delivery team of a secure IT solution.

This role sits within an organisation that is going through wider organisational change in parallel with delivering significant commitments to our clients, with an eye on how we organically grow our business through customer-diversification, New Product Development and continuous improvement.

What you will do:

  • Matrix manage multidisciplinary teams to deliver business outcomes through corporate IT change initiatives
  • Actively manage and drive forward the delivery of projects including their constituent workstreams; mediating relationships and dependencies between workstreams.
  • Manage and lead projects from contract / proposal initiation to final operational stage, including design, build, test, and transition to live activity.
  • Ensure that assigned projects are managed effectively in line with corporate methodology and global best practice. For all assigned projects execute the planning, scheduling, monitoring and reporting on activities, risks, issues, and dependencies in line with global best practice requirements and provide reporting through the PMO or Portfolio Office.
  • Ensure the quality of the solutions by identifying actions to resolve delivery risks and issues; supporting suppliers and delivery teams to manage the impact of changes when developing and delivering these solutions so that delivery remains on track.
  • Budget for, manage, monitor and review all project economics to include project costs, staffing requirements and project resources; in line with the requirements of the business case.
  • Implement and manage effective project governance arrangements, including informal and formal assurance, in line with the corporate governance and assurance approaches.
  • Where required, create business readiness plans taking into consideration technology deployment, data migration, capability deployment (training and engagement activities) and any business activities required to integrate new processes or jobs into the 'business as usual' environment.


Successful candidate profile:

You will have experience of successfully leading a major Portfolio, Programme or Project Office in a large organisation, preferably supplemented with on-the-ground delivery experience.

More generally, you will be able to demonstrate

  • Extensive and demonstrable project leadership experience, delivering any of, or a mixture of, bespoke, configured and commodity Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) products.
  • Proven ability to makes decisions to maintain momentum on projects.
  • Ability to develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to demonstrate financial control over projects.
  • Excellent communication skills - both oral and written, keen awareness of audience, able to present complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences;
  • Strong analytical skills with well-honed abilities to interpret complex data, discern trends and draw implications to support effective decision-making.
  • Proven ability to get decisions made to maintain momentum on projects.
  • Ability to develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Significant expertise in Microsoft Project, Visio, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Prepared to travel between London and Manchester regularly and to various other locations in the UK on occasion.

It is strongly preferred that candidates have:

  • PRINCE2, Managing Successful Programmes, Certified Scrum Master or otherwise suitably qualified and demonstrable experience in project leadership and use of structured delivery methods. An understanding of the other AXELOS Global Best Practices (including M_o_R, MSP and ITIL) would be beneficial given the close alignment to the corporate project delivery approach.
