Lead IT Architect - £55,000 - £60,000 - Leeds

Reporting to the Head of Delivery Architecture, the Lead Delivery Architect will work alongside the Programme Team and Heads of Function to take the lead role in the delivery of key IT implementation projects. In addition, the Lead Delivery Architect will be responsible for ensuring that technology roadmaps are adhered to by providing architectural leadership that will serve as the governance checkpoint prior to delivery sign-off off for technology designs prior to implementation. On Larger programmes the Lead Delivery Architect will line manage other Solution Architects.

Outline of responsibilities

  • Take a lead role as part of the programme team on large programmes, governing and shaping their delivery. Work closely with external suppliers to ensure the solution makes best use of technology and meets customer requirements
  • Be responsible for the governance and design of the complete solution covering all technology aspects including infrastructure, applications and service wrap
  • To understand the challenges and complexities that exists within each stream or area of the programme, and be able to integrate these activities
  • Promote co-operation and facilitate co-ordination of all technical and non-technical streams within the programme to achieve the successful delivery of an integrated solution
  • Provide consultancy to determine and understand the dependencies that exist between technical and non-technical components across streams
  • Support the Project/Programme Manager in understanding the risks, dependencies and issues that exist and the impact that these may have on the project/programme
  • Understand what the project/programme will deliver from a business and benefits perspective and to advise on areas where this in not congruent with the proposed solution

Business and Technical competencies emphasis

  • Familiarity with business and technical concepts such as business process design, modelling languages, service management, applications, servers, networks and security (both technical and process)
  • Understand complex business problems and commercial frameworks and how to apply a logical, systematic approach to arrive at an appropriate solution
  • Effective communicator including written, diagrammatic and oral and able to reduce complex ideas to simple terms and express these to both a non-technical and technical audience
  • Offer excellent insight into potential architectural problems which will result in sub optimal achievement of requirements
  • Able to build credibility with peers and client stakeholders by applying experience and subject matter expertise to inform the construction of a compelling solution
  • Typically no less than 10 years of technology leadership, governance and solutions delivery experience
  • Possesses a broad knowledge of solution areas such security, business analysis, applications and infrastructure, service management and has worked in these complex environments on at least 2 large engagements
  • Competent in using architectural principles, approaches and frameworks such as TOGAF or Zachmann
  • Experience of designing & implementing solutions as part of multi-stream change programmes
