Infrastructure Engineer / Architect Outline Role Description
Capita Primary Care Services England (PCSE) is undertaking a significant programme of IT enabled business transformation, working with our partners both across and external to Capita.
The programme involves implementation of a MS Dynamics based CRM instance which interfaces with numerous third-party systems and utilises an array of virtual infrastructure and network solutions. The first stage of this transformation has been completed with the next stages of the programme currently in flight.
This role is for an experienced infrastructure engineer looking to progress into an IT architecture role. You will work with operational and project teams to provide detailed designs and guidance on various aspects of infrastructure solutions. You will be responsible for producing detailed designs, and providing guidance and support for transition, transformation and delivery on a variety of initiatives. You will apply functional knowledge and technical expertise to design systems to support customer needs.

Infrastructure Engineer / Architect Responsibilities Overview
You will be responsible for understanding the entire end to end solution across PCSE including working with all connected third parties and their applications. You will be supporting the lead technical architect in the IT operations team as part of this role and will report into that function.
As part of this role all support implications and requirements of any solutions must be clearly understood including documentation, work instructions, maintenance routines, monitoring and alerting so that these can be taken into support by PCSE IT Operations team who are responsible for the production environments.
PCSE IT Operations team also have a significant project pipeline of work that has been identified within the that will require scope and delivery and this role will be pivotal in the delivery of these projects. In addition to this you will also be required to contribute to technical innovation. This will include adoption of new technologies or tactical solutions to improve how the business operates.

Infrastructure Engineer / Architect Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership within the PCSE IT function, supporting the end to end technical solution
  • Work with the transformation architecture unit, ensuring that there is a clear understanding of the technical solution within PCSE IT
  • Work within the PCSE IT Operations Team to deliver IT BAU projects
  • Ensure that all IT solutions being handed over into operations have the necessary technical artefacts produced to enable them to be supported and developed
  • Provide operational technical assurance around all IT solutions
  • Lead on technical incidents, specifically priority 1 scenarios, coordinating all necessary third parties through to successful resolution
  • Ownership for the cascading knowledge into the service desk and other technical areas within PCSE IT. Responsibility for creation / validation of work instructions for PCSE IT and knowledge base articles
  • Technical development of service desk and second line support staff, enabling a shift left strategy to be implemented
  • Technical mentoring of staff, enabling career progression
  • Ongoing development of the technical solutions and technical innovation within the PCSE account
  • Technical management of any third party suppliers
  • Provide technical assurance surrounding IT change management
  • To be responsible and accountable for the design of an integrated technical solution across all streams of a project or small programme.
  • To understand the technical problems, challenges and complexities that exist within the IT Operation and be able to manage and/or liaise with other technical stream leads to arrive at an integrated technical solution that meets the business requirements.

Infrastructure Engineer / Architect Essential Experience/Skills

  • Experience of working within a large multi-disciplinary organisation
  • Expertise in Microsoft Server & Desktop Operating Systems, VMware resilient environment is useful
  • Good awareness of Layer 3 networking and WAN design
  • Good awareness of infrastructure management toolsets
  • Strong knowledge and demonstrable experience with infrastructure architecture, implementation and support expertise.
  • Expert technical and technical leadership skills.
  • Technical risk identification and management.
  • Planning and management of technical infrastructure tasks.
  • Experience working with complex programmes of change involving multiple providers
  • Familiar with business process improvement techniques
  • Experience with virtualised environments - server and network
