Business development specialist - PART TIME 16 Hours per week

The primary function of a Business Development Specialist (BDS) is to make a large volume of calls each day into prospective companies to book appointments (generate leads for the sales team). Communication can also be made via LinkedIn, or email communications. Additionally the BDS is to promote our seminars and conferences and book people on to attend those events.

Targets: 30% of time on phone (this represents 18 minutes per hour) the rest of the time updating the CRM system, email confirmations, researching via web, using LinkedIn (as applicable)
12 calls per hour on average
3 meaningful conversations per day
1 appointment per day

Job Description:

BDSs have a database of prospective customers to call. This will include a combination of cold calls and subsequent structured call-backs.
BDSs are responsible for validation of information / data and updating the database, following telephone contact and supported internet research.
BDSs are to undertake regular, structured and relevant communication via the telephone to prospective customers. During the calls they are responsible for understanding needs, identify specific opportunities, understand contract renewal points, promote Britannic and our products and services and generate leads for the sales team.
BDSs are responsible for managing the regular contact into the prospective customers, set appropriate call-backs and obtaining relevant information to update the database this includes (but not limited to the following):

  • Name of the decision maker & relevant contact details
  • Type of phone system
  • Age of phone system
  • Size of business (employees, locations, no. of extensions, no. of sites, UK/overseas
  • Renewal dates for contracts in particular - e.g. maintenance, calls & lines, WAN


BDSs can obtain information through multi-level contacts e.g. receptionist, IT administrator, IT Manager and IT Director. BDSs should always seek to speak to the decision maker. However they can obtain information and validate database information at lower levels - this helps to ensure that when the BDS speaks with the decision maker they will have a more meaningful call.
BDSs can also make contact via inmail, email or other appropriate communications tool, with follow up by phone.
Fields are to be updated with relevant information - including notes to enable efficient review of history and progress between BDS and the prospective customer in advance of subsequent telephone calls.
BDSs are to ask questions to obtain information. Open questions are to be used to create dialogue and discussion with prospective customers, understanding requirements and identifying opportunities for Britannic providing the opportunity to book a meeting for a Sales Consultant. The calls are to be reinforced with clear messages and benefits of our approach, products and services and success stories with other customers / projects.
