Business Architect - Role Description

This role is core to the ongoing optimisation and development of the services provided by Primary Care Support England to Primary Care Contractors. The scope of the role is to define and shape the requirements and change initiatives, bringing together information from different sources to shape change programmes that will optimise the business across all services.

The postholder will have deep experience of defining business requirements and architecting change based on strategic objectives and operational data. The architect will work with a team of business analysts to shape and deliver appropriate interventions that will enable step-changes in performance. They will deploy a suite of analytical tools and stakeholder management techniques to elicit business needs and requirements and then shape and document solutions in response.

The business architect will also provide thought leadership to the operational service delivery teams and to the PCSE Senior Management Team in order to design effective solutions and to inform business priority calls.

Business Architect - Key responsibilities:

  • To take given strategic objectives and to identify, critique and prioritise the interventions and enablers that will deliver improved performance against these objectives;
  • To define and prioritise business requirements for what is needed to enact the change required;
  • To define and document precise business requirements for specific change control projects or service improvement initiatives across Primary Care Support England;
  • To set and maintain professional standards in business architecture methods and tools amongst the project teams of business analysts, testers and IT professionals;
  • Deliver against requirements, including analysing data / problems and using relevant expertise and tools to define potential solutions;
  • Custodian of the operating model collateral for the business, including the maintenance of key models and architecture views;
  • To lead the review and governance of business requirements and technical designs throughout the life-cycle of each project, ensuring that key check-points keep stakeholders informed of changes in requirements and business impacts;
  • To review designs for planned business changes and understand impacts across all areas of service delivery, flagging impacts and necessary design changes to maintain a stable live service;
  • To compile assessments of the impact (in terms of tasks required, timescales and effort needed) in response to the defined business requirements for a particular change initiative;
  • To provide subject matter expertise to provide recommendations to the Capita Senior Management Team in the assessment of solution options;
  • Mentor and develop more junior members of the team in order to develop the business analyst and change capability.

Business Architect - Experience:

  • Broad and deep ICT and business architecture knowledge;
  • Systems engineering expertise - user requirements capture; system requirements definition; architectural/functional design; requirements traceability; verification & validation processes;
  • Working knowledge of architecture frameworks and approaches e.g. Archimate / TOGAF;
  • Consultancy skills, including building relationships with customers and suppliers; flexibility; adaptability to changing schedules; reliability and quality of task delivery;
  • Experience of line managing business analyst staff;
  • TOGAF V9.2 qualification (desirable).
