Business Analyst

I am currently working directly with the Head of Change & Analysis and he is in the market for an ambitious Business Analyst to join his successful team in our prestigious offices at Fort Dunlop, Birmingham. The Business Analyst role will serve as the liaison between the customer community, the business and the technical development team. This person will be responsible for eliciting, analysing, validating, specifying, verifying, and managing the business needs of the project stakeholders, including customers, the business and end users. The successful candidate will work closely with business units, subject matter experts and technical colleagues to identify business needs, capture processes, define projects, develop requirements and manage the development effort to completion.

As mentioned the base location will be from Fort Dunlop in Birmingham but working with DWP/DfC will mean that work might take you to work from client sites in following locations:
Blackpool, Belfast, Manchester, Sheffield or London.

Business Analyst Key Responsibilities

  • Ability to define project objectives, scope, timelines, responsibilities and communication methods.
  • Produce timely, cost effective and high-quality solutions to improve current processes or implement new ones, on the basis of analysis, business knowledge and sound personal judgement.
  • Independently gather, analyse and synthesise complex data and information including business strategy, objectives and processes.
  • Produce Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN) documents.
  • Quickly identify major project issues, findings and opportunities.
  • Ability to apply knowledge and experience and incorporate an in-depth understanding of business implications to define plans and identify solutions that address highly complex business problems.
  • Develops business requirements and documentation, applying quality standards to all tasks.
  • Identify & accurately monitor, record, prioritise and address project risks and issues.
  • Ability to develop decision criteria that is used to solve business issues and evaluate solutions.
  • Acquire understanding of a problem or situation by breaking it down systematically into its component parts and identify the relationships between these parts.
  • Use established methodologies to work with staff to investigate and quantify project impacts and to identify cross-project and cross-functional dependencies and then plan accordingly.
  • Undertake analysis and estimate impact a project will have on business, employees and customers and recommend the most equitable solution (impact assessments)
  • Make independent decisions within approved guidelines.
  • Balance timeliness, cost effectiveness and quality in proposing solutions; to improve quality, customer service, efficiency, revenue and productivity and to provide information.
  • Function as a change agent to make improvements in systems, processes & procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend possible solutions.
  • Define and plan project deliverables for project or workstream team.
  • Ensure agreed project deliverables are completed to quality, time and to budget.
  • Interact at all levels of the organisation, communicating project related decisions outside the project team.
  • Represent department or team on task forces, committees or other initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to influence change of department strategy, in terms of methodology, techniques and tools deployed.
  • Independently plan own work. Perform work without supervision and subject to infrequent review.
  • Demonstrate ability to lead and manage a workstream or project team that may have significant corporate impact.
  • Involvement in the training and coaching of new and existing techniques to peer group and assist others in achieving objectives and personal development plans.
  • Support the BA team with PIP Claimant feedback activities when required.
  • Work with Systems Analysts and Solutions Architects to develop requirements into functional ones and into technical specifications through to solution.
  • Any other duties reasonably expected as requested by line management.

Business Analyst Key Skills & Experience

  • 3-5 years previous Business Analyst experience
  • Able to produce Use cases, Entity Diagrams, Process Maps, PDD's and Business Requirements with ease.
  • Experience of using Microsoft Visio, Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Strong customer facing skills. Must be comfortable and confident with clients at all levels.
